Yancheng Lianggong Formwork has successfully delivered and installed its integrated hydraulic auto-climbing system on the Jeddah Tower project in Saudi Arabia — the world’s tallest building standing at 1,008 meters. Serving as the primary high-altitude working platform for exterior facade construction, this deployment marks a significant milestone for Chinese-manufactured formwork technology applied in world-class megaprojects.
Jeddah Tower: Engineering at the Kilometer Scale
Rising along the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia, Jeddah Tower is accelerating toward its designed height of 1008 meters, set to become the world’s first-ever kilometer-tall skyscraper and the core landmark of Jeddah Economic City under Saudi Vision 2030. Now exceeding 430 meters in height, the project enters a demanding high-altitude construction phase.
Conventional scaffolding and temporary working platforms cannot cope with harsh coastal wind loads, limited tower-crane resources and strict local safety regulations. Specialized high-altitude equipment built for extreme operating conditions was required — which is exactly why Lianggong’s hydraulic auto-climbing system was selected for this project.
Overcoming High- Altitude Construction Challenges
Kilometer-scale megatall construction brings unique engineering hurdles. The strong coastal winds and kilometer-level operational heights present nearly harsh challenges for aerial work platforms. After multiple shutdowns and restarts, the project is now accelerating and advancingupward. Curtain wall construction faces multiple practical challenges such as high-altitude winds, tight tower crane resources, strict safety controls, and heavy construction schedules. Ordinary scaffolding and work platforms are inadequate, which is precisely the core application battlefield for the Lianggong integrated hydraulic climbing construction platform.
Traditional scaffolding systems demand floor- by-floor disassembly, reassembly and crane- aided relocation. Such workflows consume substantial time and expose on-site crews to heightened safety risks above 400 meters. The general contractor needed a solution capable of autonomous climbing, strong- wind resistance, stable enclosed working zones and minimal reliance on tower- crane hoisting.
Lianggong’s Hydraulic Auto- Climbing Solution
Developed and manufactured by Yancheng Lianggong Formwork, this integrated hydraulic auto- climbing frame is purpose- built for super-tall facade construction. It adopts a “climb-support- platform” trinity integrated design, merging climbing mechanism, structural support and working platforms into one self- contained assembly. Engineered to resist Grade‑13 strong coastal winds, this system features five suspended working levels, synchronized hydraulic actuators and a full‑perimeter enclosed platform that removes the need for additional scaffolding.
Powered by synchronized hydraulic actuators, the complete assembly climbs autonomously between floors without repeated tower- crane hoisting. Platform sections telescope flexibly to adapt to Jeddah Tower’s tapering variable contours, removing frequent floor- by-floor disassembly and reassembly required by conventional systems.
The fully enclosed full- perimeter working platform eliminates additional scaffolding erection and delivers a safer, more controlled operating environment for workers at extreme heights.
Project Execution and Quality Assurance
The Lianggong project team completed full pre- project preparation, equipment supply and on-site assembly following strict quality- control and safety protocols.
Physical anchorage onto the tower facade represents a critical milestone: Lianggong’s formwork technology has transitioned from engineering drawings and factory production into real- world construction of the future world’s tallest building.
This project demonstrates Lianggong’s capability to deliver engineered formwork complying with top-tier international megaproject standards. The whole project cycle — including customized design, manufacturing, overseas logistics, on-site assembly and final acceptance — is managed in- house, proving full- cycle execution capacity for global landmark skyscraper developments.
As Jeddah Tower continues to grow in height, Lianggong will keep investing in R&D for super- high-rise construction technologies. Backedby proven product quality and mature overseas project service workflows, Lianggong Formwork is ready to collaborate with global contractors and distributors for more landmark skyscraper projects worldwide, bringing reliable Chinese- engineered formwork solutions to skylines across continents.
